Perspective Applicants

Applicants will be interviewed by voice after the application is sent and before testing can start. No exceptions! If a date and time is not scheduled within the four weeks of the applicant’s application, another application will be required to continue.

Auditions are mandatory either by doing a test broadcast on our streaming server, providing a previously prerecorded podcast, show, or both.

Auditions are critiqued and judged by the audio quality, the connection between you and our streaming server during test broadcasts, the on-air personality and presence, show mechanics, overall performance, and other key factors. You can download our scoresheet here!

The applicant will be expected to present a total of up to three test broadcasts or prerecorded presentations. Each audition must be within an audition period of up to four weeks from one another, and all must be completed by 90 days from the date of your final interview.

Everyone will be subject to an audition period of up to 90 days from the applicant's final interview. By the end of the audition-period, management will decide whether the applicant should be approved or not. Management reserves the right to dismiss an applicant from our station within their audition-period but must provide an explanation. Applicants must show an overall improvement in their audition-period to even be considered a permanent member of our station..

Only after the 90 day audition period or when a decision has been made by management, will a time slot be agreed upon with the consideration of the applicant’s interested time slots. Applicants will also receive all other responsibilities and privileges of other presenters at our station.

Attendance

Presenters are expected to show up every week to do their full length show consistently and on time. Management reserves the right to dismiss presenters for inconsistency or poor attendance and will inform them if this is the case.

Attendance is expected. Frequent absences, lateness and premature endings of shows without a warranted reason is frowned upon. Your attendance reflects our station’s professional image, thus will not be tolerated for an extended period of time. If we feel you could improve upon this, we will inform you only once. After that, you will be dismissed.

It is the presenter’s responsibility to inform management that a show was missed, canceled, delayed or prematurely ended. We ask that you warn us ahead of time if this happens. If by chance it could not be helped and no notice could be given ahead of time, we expect a reason for the attendance issue, no later than a week from the incident.

It is the presenters responsibility to find a fill-in to cover for their show. Management does not need to approve the request but should be informed of their decision. If the presenter is uncomfortable with giving the responsibility to another presenter, they should let management know as well. You are capable of finding someone suitable for your show and should feel comfortable with the fill-in.

A leave of absence will only be granted under the following conditions and must be requested in writing.

If the leave of absence is approved, the presenter has four weeks to return to their normal duties and presenting their show in there agreed time slot. They must also keep in touch as well during their leave of absence to ensure they’re still interested in being an active member of Magic 109.

The presenter understands upon a leave of absence, there time slot will only be reserved for four weeks, regardless of the amount of time they asked for their leave of absence. It by chance the time slot is still available they may take their time slot with no further action or questions from management. If the timeslot is no longer available, that applicant must reapply and find a new timeslot. This is a ‘finders keepers’ policy. We must obtain our professional image and cater to only those who are passionate in what they do and show a great deal of commitment.

Holidays are not mandatory during Easter weekend, Memorial Day/weekend, Independence Day/weekend, Labor Day/weekend, Thanksgiving week, the week of Christmas and New Years, and the presenter's birthday.

VTO or Voluntary Time-Off is awarded for those with good attendance, who volunteer to fill-in for others, or other rare circumstances that warrant it.

Station Behavior

There is an absolute ZERO tolerance for any kind of drama whatsoever! Presenters are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manor, on and off the air!

Management will NOT intervene in any situation between any presenter that is involved off the air. Investigations will only occur when the activity can be directly correlated with a situation that occurred on air. With that said, it doesn't mean that it is condoned.

If a presenter has an issue with another member of our station, they are asked to resolve the situation amongst themselves, without getting anyone else involved, unless a life-threatening situation is a result. at which point only management should be informed. If they can’t, they should leave or will be asked to leave by management.

Follow all common courtesies with all station members and its listeners. Abiding will greater your chances of a drama free experience.

Additionally, all presenters are responsible for the activity of their shows, this includes the views and opinions of the listeners that are brought on air. We hold ourselves at a high standard and look for premium programs with vibrant personality. We do not provide a platform for bringing listeners on the air and hold no jurisdiction but ask that presenters be as inclusive as possible while being fair and reasonable of their own limitations.

The image of our presenters is important to us. We ask that our presenters keep their social media appropriate for all audiences. We cannot enforce this rule but will encourage our presenters to separate their personal life from Magic 109. If it becomes a problem, that presenter may be asked to create a social media account specifically for their show or Magic 109. If that presenter refuses, management reserves the right to dismiss or suspend that individual. Presenters without a social media account are encouraged to create one to boost the interactivity with our listeners.

Complaints will be filed only in writing through our website. Management will investigate each individual complaint with fairness and a non-bias perspective. If the complaint is filed against management, it will be reviewed by a third-party.

Members found hacking, defiling, altering, editing, modifying or any other action that could be considered as an act of ill will to the station and/or it’s team members will be immediately removed and banned from ever joining again and quite possibly even lose the privilege of listening to our streaming server and viewing our station’s website.

Show Prep and Content

Presenters are encouraged to have a good idea of their show, prior to it airing on our streaming server. This might include:

Presenters doing a music orientated or music/talk show must present it in a one-, two- or three-hour time slot if it is to be live. Any prerecorded shows will only be accepted if they are spoken only, contain royalty free content, are roughly one, two or three hours in length, and/or are broken up in fifty-five-minute or so intervals and are publicly available online.

Any presenter planning to do a music orientated or music/talk show must follow standard U.S. Sound Exchange rules, which include:

Fail to follow these rules could get you dismissed from our station. Following these rules will open up other opportunities for your show.

Presenters doing music orientated or music/talk shows must understand that we only want an individual who will at least do a short ‘mic-break’ every fifteen minutes or every four tracks. However, we will accept a single ‘ten-in-a-row’ in a given show as long as it is no longer than fifty-five minutes in length and the show’s length is at least three hours total. Just be sure to inform your listening audience either with a liner or drop or by word of mouth.

Your show may contain material for mature audiences, although you must clearly identify it at the beginning of your show. The schedule will also clearly identify whether or not your show contain content for a mature audience as well; thus, it is important to decide beforehand. If you are not going to have content for mature audiences, you must be family friendly or safe work work on air, as well as the content you play. Material for mature audiences is preferred only during evening hours from 9 pm to 6 am (Eastern) the following day, Monday thru Thursday, and 9 pm onwards, Friday through Saturday night, till midnight (Eastern) Sunday.

Presenters must play roughly one to three minutes of station break material every hour if the show is to be live. This includes at least two station promos or show promos. Commercials or PSA's (public service announcements) are optional. It doesn’t matter how this allotted time gets delegated, but ideally it should be before or just after the top of the hour.

  1. Everyone will be required to play at least 1 to 3 minutes of station break material per hour!
  2. Those that do shows that are after another presenter, must wait till the station break that airs through our automation system completes after the previous show finishes. Those that do not proceed another presenter's show, still need to wait till the station break that automation plays completes as well.
  3. Those with 1-hour time slots do not need to worry about adding station breaks into their show, but should try to keep their program between 55 and 58 minutes in length to ensure automation is able to start the next station break on time.
  4. Everyone should be considerate for the next presenter following them and end there show within two to three minutes before the top of the hour regardless who follows them. Please make the hand-off as smooth as possible!
  5. All station break material's metadata (title and artist information) must NOT be streamed or visible in the stream title history. Another words, mark the station break material as spots, voice tracks or configure as carts (in StationPlaylist) to avoid streaming the metadata of the content being played.
  6. PSA's (public service announcements) or commercials are optional and should be treated the same as station or show promo's. Please be advised, all commercials and PSAs must be approved beforehand.

Social Media and Online Presence

All presenters must be actively engaged and involved with our listeners at least while you are on-air. This includes:

Show enthusiasm! We’re looking for perspective presenters who have a real knack for the internet radio thing.

Be a team player and help out as much as you can. Not only does it help with things behind the scenes at our station, but it also provides a reason for others to do the same.

Strive for perfection! No one’s perfect, but we hope you’re continuously looking to better you and your show each week. Your listeners will notice this too. Doing this in turn will better the station as a whole. We’re all here to have fun, but we also know that we’re here because we enjoy it. All we ask is to prove it!
